Member Spotlight - Mike P.

Mike is a great example of what hard work and dedication can do for you. He's earned everything he's gotten in here. He shows up consistanly and pushes himself to be better. He was a great runner when he came in, but now he's so much better as a well rounded athlete. I remember when he first came in and he had a real hard time doing air squats, now, not only has his form improved drastically, he's one of the heavier back squatters at the gym. Work on your weaknesses until they become strengths.

If you're looking for him, check near the top of the leader board everyday. Mike's gone from the hunter to the hunted. Everyone now shoots to keep up with him in these workouts and as his trainer and his friend, I couldn't be happer for him and more proud of his accomplishments. Keep up the hard work Mike, it hasn't gone unnoticed.

Here are a few questions we asked Mike. Get to know your fellow 630'ers!

Favorite Workout?

I usually prefer longer WODs, Filthy 50 is my favorite right now. Great test of endurance, especially when it was 95 and humid last time we did it.

Favorite lift?

I can’t believe I’m saying this cause I hated this lift when I first started, but Squat Cleans.

Favorite WOD song?

90s rap and just about any house music.

What inspires you?

All the awesome people we workout with at 630. It’s so motivating to see everyone working hard to make themselves better while encouraging each other the whole time. You never want to quit something early when you have a group of friends working just as hard as you are.

Hidden talents?

I’m pretty good at Pop-a-Shot and I used to be a decent juggler. Both are important life skills to have….

Why CrossFit?

I did marathons and triathlons in the past, the events were ok but I was bored training by myself. I then tried a typical big box gym, I just wasn’t seeing any improvement going through my solo workout routine every day. Friends encouraged me to try CrossFit (thanks Kristina) and the environment is just what I needed. I’m never bored. Between the varied skills, lifts and workouts, every day is something new. It’s also huge to have coaches and friends pushing you every day. I truly look forward to going to the gym every day, I never said that in the past. This stuff works… show up regularly, be willing to work hard, listen to your coaches and you’ll see huge mental and physical improvements.
